San Marcos police have identified a man who died in a crash on Sunday as David Hollinbeck, 61, of San Antonio.

Authorities said Kyle Nissen of San Marcos crossed onto the wrong side of the road around 1 p.m. in a silver Ford F-250 truck on Wonder World Drive, near the Purgatory Creek bridge. He collided into four vehicles — including Hollinbeck’s white Ford F-150 truck — head-on after hitting a gray Nissan Rogue.

Hollinbeck was killed, but his wife, who was a passenger, was taken to Seton Medical Center Hays and released on Sunday, police said.

After hitting the Nissan Rogue and crossing over to the wrong side of the road, Nissen’s truck then hit a black Chevrolet Silverado, a gray Mazda CX9, a white Nissan Altima, and Hollinbeck’s truck, police said.

“Other than the driver of the side-struck Nissan Rogue, every driver and passenger in the vehicles involved was transported to Ascension Seton Hays Hospital in Kyle, several with serious, but not life-threatening injuries,” officials said.

Authorities said they think alcohol was a factor in the crash, and police are awaiting Nissen’s toxicology test. Hollinbeck’s death was the 13th traffic fatality in San Marcos this year, officials said.

“As of this incident, San Marcos has experienced the highest number of traffic fatalities in a single year since 2012 when the city counted 13 fatalities total for the year,” officials said.
