Community input sought
on renaming Rec Center
The Austin City Council has passed a resolution initiating the process for renaming the Metz Recreation Center to the Rodolfo “Rudy” Mendez Recreation Center, and community members are encouraged to provide input during the 90-day comment period through May 2.
Community members also can participate at gatherings from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 29 and 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 3 at the Metz Recreation Center, 2407 Canterbury St.
Employees from the Austin History Center will provide insight into the lives of Hamilton M. Metz and Rudy Mendez. Austin Parks and Recreation Department’s staff members will facilitate community conversation.

LEANDER
City updating its
comprehensive plan
The city of Leander is updating its comprehensive plan to determine short- and long-term community goals, overall land use and city regulations.
The community survey is online through March 10. Survey answers from residents and stakeholders, along with other public input and data, will help shape recommendations for Leander’s comprehensive plan update. Survey questions are available in English and Spanish at bit.ly/cp2020s.
The city will host an open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19 in SouthStar Bank, 10737 E. Crystal Falls Parkway This come-and-go event is an opportunity for the public to share thoughts and ask questions about how to make Leander a better place to live and work. Comprehensive plans provide a community vision for the future and recommend actions to make that vision a reality. They explore key elements like capital improvement, city services, neighborhood preservation, economic development, transportation and land use.

DRIPPING SPRINGS
Enrollment open for
after-school classes
Enrollment is open for spring 2020 after-school enrichment classes for all Dripping Springs school district elementary schools.
The classes provide elementary students with opportunities to learn more about activities they enjoy or try out something new. Classes meet once a week at various elementary campuses; some classes are taught at all schools, while others are offered at designated campuses only.
Registration will close at 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
