Love is in the air this month, and so is the first pitch at Rollingwood’s Hatley Field. The city is finalizing a lease agreement with Western Hills Little League, and we are excited to welcome our local baseball and softball teams back for another great season in our park. Opening day will be Feb. 29. I’ll be throwing the first pitch then cheering from the stands. I hope you will come out and show some love to our young athletes.

Following our comprehensive branding effort in partnership with the Rollingwood Community Development Corporation last year, the city is continuing to roll out our official brand across the community. Starting on opening day at the ball fields, we will have select merchandise featuring our new Rollingwood logo available for purchase. We are also in the process of creating a brand store, which will offer a range of Rollingwood items for sale through the city website and at City Hall. Keep an eye out for more information to be shared by email in the coming weeks.

Rollingwood Park is the heart of our city, with baseball season as a perfect example of how this special place can bring people together. After opening day, I invite you to join me again for It’s My Park Day on March 7. Community members will be mulching the flowerbeds and trees at this year’s citywide volunteer event. It’s a fun opportunity to spend time with your neighbors while giving back and getting outside on a beautiful spring day.

As you think about spring cleaning at your own home, the city is pleased to share that bulk trash pick up will come to the curb this year. We are working with Waste Connections to schedule a day for pick up of large household items and bulky materials. The date will be announced as soon as it is locked in. This offering is a great example of the simple but important services that our staff works to provide to keep our city running.

To further support the city’s efforts to provide the modern services and amenities our residents deserve, the city of Rollingwood is proud to welcome a few new team members to our staff. David Brasich joined the city as our public works director at the end of January, and he has already hit the ground running. Brasich comes to us most recently from the city of Bastrop, where he served as the building official. He has also worked as the public works director for the city of West Lake Hills, and he’s thrilled to be back in the area. Be sure to say hello to Brasich when you see him around town.

The Rollingwood Police Department will be welcoming some new members in the coming weeks and months. Police Chief Jason Brady has been hard at work to ensure our department is fully staffed after a few key departures last year. Our own Corporal Greg Duarte has been promoted to sergeant and is ready to take on this new role in the community. A new corporal will also be joining the department this month, and more police officer spots are in the process of being filled. Our Police Department is a vital part of our community, protecting our residents and the neighborhoods where we live, work and play. We are so grateful for their service.

In addition to adding new faces, the Rollingwood Police Department is getting a new office and a new look. The department is moving out of their portable offices and into the City Hall complex. We’re excited for their new space. Brady is also working with his team to redesign the department patch. This is a unique team-building exercise that holds significant meaning for officers, and we’re looking forward to seeing the updated design.

The new year is already off to a strong start, and we have so much more we plan to accomplish in the months ahead. As always, if you have any questions or feedback regarding city operations, I encourage you to reach out to me at mdyson@rollingwoodtx.gov or to Amber Lewis, our city administrator, at alewis@rollingwoodtx.gov.

Mike Dyson is the mayor of Rollingwood.
