AUSTIN (KXAN)—Strong winds this week aren’t going to keep our weekend down as stars invade Austin. One of the biggest music, TV, film, and comedy events kicks off at SXSW, and if you are a theater lover, the classic musical Funny Girl wraps up its one-week run here in Austin.
Weekend Forecast
After a front arrives Saturday during the day, temperatures are expected to drop giving us a fantastic weekend! There may be a few showers early in the day, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying the weekend as it will remain light and quick. Breezy conditions will also remain behind the front as well.
Funny Girl at Bass Hall
The show that started Barbara Streisand’s big screen career, Funny Girl makes its way to Bass Hall. The show, one of the classics, tells the story of comedian and Broadway star Fanny Brice and her relationship with Nicky Arnstein in the 1940s.
The show has been revived a few times, most famously with Glee star Lea Michele stepping into the role. The tour is now making its way to Austin this weekend, running through Sunday with tickets still available on their website. It’s a show you cannot miss, especially if you’ve been missing grand musicals.

SXSW 2025
When March rolls around, we know SXSW is about to kick off and 2025 marks one of the biggest the event has ever held. Officially starting on Friday, March 7, the festival hosts all things music, movies, TV and more. The event runs through March 15 across different venues throughout Austin.
There will be film premieres, comedy shows, concerts, and conferences on each day of the event. Badges are still available depending on what part of the festival you’d like to attend. For a complete list of events and schedules, visit their website.
