AUSTIN (KXAN) — From camping with the family to superbikes at COTA, there is no reason to stay indoors. Plus, the Pecan Street Fest returns, Longhorns take on the Miners, release lanterns in the water, and a barber competition you have to see.
Weekend Forecast
It’s gonna be a hot one with mostly sunny skies and temperatures heading back up towards the upper 90s. Rain chances are gone for the weekend as well, so be sure to drink plenty of water, take breaks from the sun, and watch out for your pets if you take them anywhere with you.
MotoAmerica
Superbikes return to The Circuit of the Americas for MotoAmerica Superbikes at Texas. Taking place from Friday, September 12, through Sunday, September 14, watch as over 120 riders race their superbikes at over 190 miles per hour. There will be five classes of road racing for you to check out, including Superbike, Motovation, Supersport, Parts Unlimited Talent Cup, Stock 1000, and Mission King of the Baggers. On top of the actual racing, there will be a kids’ zone, carnival games, a stunt show, and a bike show as well. Kids 12 and under are free, but if you want more information on the event or for tickets, be sure to stop by their website.

Family Campout
Gather the family and spend the night in Old Settlers Park as it’s time for the 13th Annual Family Campout! Taking place on the night of Friday, September 12, at Yonders Point, this is the perfect time (with weather looking like it will cooperate) to get everyone together for a night around the campfire. There will be plenty to do with your kids, including games, making s’mores, a movie in the park, and good ol’ family time. Be sure to pack your own tent, though, along with a sleeping bag, flashlights, a water bottle, insect repellent, snacks, and a chair. You do need to register in order to attend so be sure to stop by their website.

Pecan Street Festival
It’s an annual tradition (50 years to be exact!) as the Pecan Street Festival returns to Bee Cave. Taking place Saturday, September 13 and Sunday, September 14, there will be plenty to do including free dance, yoga, and self-defense classes. Mix in a children’s art workshop and a music line-up perfect for fall, and you’re set for the biggest Pecan Street Festival ever. There will also be local vendors and a ton of food to check out. The best part of the whole thing is that it’s absolutely free for everyone to attend. For more information on the event and for a schedule, be sure to visit their website.

Water Lantern Festival
A sight you have to see to believe, and you don’t need to be a Disney Princess to see the lights. The Water Lantern Festival makes a stop at Lake Volente in Leander on Saturday, September 13. The event is meant to help you heal, connect, or even remember the past. As the sun sets, the lanterns are released on the water, giving you a moment to admire and reflect. There is still time to buy tickets, so be sure to stop by their website for all the details.

Texas vs UTEP
The Longhorns are back on the field this weekend as they take on the Miners of UTEP. Texas is coming off its win last weekend against San Jose State and hope to repeat the win. While the Longhorns may not be ranked at number 1 anymore, they definitely are looking to get back to the top spot and show their worth. Arch and the team kick off at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, with plenty of people arriving early for Bevo Blvd fun. For more information or to get tickets to the game, be sure to visit their website.

ATX Barber Madness
This is a very interesting gathering and is one that only Austin can bring. It’s the ATX Barber Madness on Sunday, September 14, at the Kalahari Resorts and Conventions in Round Rock. It’s an all-day event with plenty to do including live barber battles and competitions by some of the top barbers, educational sessions talking about the latest trends and techniques, a huge vendor area for tools and products, and more. The contests are intense with different categories like student, fast fade, freestyle, edgar freestyle, tag team, and King of Texas. For details and to pick up tickets, be sure to stop by their website.
