AUSTIN (KXAN) — A beast of a weekend as Austin City Limits kicks off with Weekend 1 this weekend. Plus, Kimberly Akimbo stops at Bass Concert Hall with an acting legend, and Fortlandia sets up its forts for the year!
Weekend Forecast
This weekend is looking perfect to be out at Austin City Limits. You’ll still get some sunshine, and temperatures will stay in the 90s. No complaints other than make sure you are staying hydrated, taking breaks, using sunblock, and enjoying your favorite musician this weekend!
Kimberly Akimbo
Heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time, it’s the 2023 Tony-winner for best musical, Kimberly Akimbo. The story is about a teen girl who is born with a condition that causes her to rapidly age. While her friends are all still looking like normal teens, she looks like an older woman. The story does touch on the sadness of the situation, but also looks at the importance of living your life every day like it’s the last day. Broadway icon Ann Morrison (who was in the original cast of Merrily We Roll Along) currently stars in the National Tour. The show has opened and runs through October 5 at Bass Concert Hall. For more information on the show and to purchase tickets, be sure to visit their website.
Fortlandia
It’s a yearly tradition and one that people around Austin love to see. It’s Fortlandia, and it’s back at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center for the rest of the year. Kicking off on Saturday, October 4, Fortlandia is the place for exploration and imagination. 8 different forts have been designed, built, and are now open for kids to enjoy. There is no additional fee required to enjoy the forts at Fortlandia. For more information on the event, be sure to visit the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center website.

Austin City Limits
This is what the fall is all about pumpkin-spiced lattes and plenty of music. It also marks the return of Austin City Limits, when people from all over invade Austin for two weekends of music, sun, and fun. Running Friday, October 3, through Sunday, October 5. The second weekend of the festival runs from Friday, October 10, through Sunday, October 12. Each day has a plethora of artists from indie/local darlings to some of the biggest names in music right now, including Sabrina Carpenter, Hozier, Luke Combs, The Strokes, Doechii, John Summit, and late addition The Killers.
