AUSTIN (KXAN) — The city of Blanco said on Monday that a water main break has caused a city-wide water service interruption.
The city said in a social media post the water main break was expected to last for six to eight hours.
In a video posted on Facebook, Blanco’s Mayor Mike Arnold said when crews were replacing old fire hydrants as part of its water infrastructure revamp it was connected to a “very old” water main that broke.
“One of the problems is there is no valve to shut it off. This is the entire city’s water supply depressurizing so they can fix it. It’s a major inconvenience, it is what it is,” Arnold said.
As a result of the water main break, the city has issued a boil water notice. The city said the water should be brought to a “vigorous rolling” boil and then boiled for two minutes to ensure harmful bacteria were destroyed.
