Video: Mannequin 'greeter' Ophelia stolen from The Oasis on Lake Travis

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Lots of folks visit The Oasis on Lake Travis to enjoy food and drinks and a picturesque view of the sunset over the lake, but while there, visitors may end up making an unexpected friend in the restaurant’s “greeter.”

That greeter is a funky mannequin named Ophelia who restaurant managers said was stolen last week.

The Oasis posted on its Facebook page about the theft on Saturday, sharing surveillance video that caught two people taking the mannequin on their way out of the restaurant Friday night. The post said The Oasis wanted to avoid getting law enforcement involved and said they’d be grateful if the people who took Ophelia returned her.

In another post, the restaurant shared photos of the people believed to have taken Ophelia and re-emphasized they don’t want to get law enforcement involved, and they just want the mannequin back.

“Ophelia has been an Oasis gem for many years. She sits differently places around the restaurant, ready to great guests and take fun photos!” the post said. “It’s very important we get her back if anyone knows anything at all!”

“She may just be a dummy to some, but to us she’s family,” General Manager Jody Theriot said via email Tuesday. “She’s greeted over thousands upon thousands of guest[s], had her photo taken with numerous people, and it’s a shame that she’s been here for 13 years with no issues [and] one night some guy decided to take her.”

Ophelia even has her own Facebook page, where photos of guests posing with her are shared.

The Oasis asked if anyone recognizes the people who took Ophelia, contact the restaurant managers at 512-226-2442.
