AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Transportation Security Administration has opened a new lane at the Austin Bergstrom International Airport for active duty service members and their families.
The Serve with Honor, Travel with Ease military lanes were designed to create an expedited security process for active duty military members. That lane is located at the pre-check lane checkpoint at AUS.
“It means a lot knowing that we have to sacrifice sometimes being in the military — maybe away from family, friends, loved ones. And so being able to have something small like this, which is extremely major because I’m actually going back home to see my son, and to make sure I can get there — it means everything to me,” said Daniel Logan, who serves with the Army as a human resource specialist.
According to TSA, these lanes have opened at a dozen airports across the country.
“Active duty military members and their family members have head-of-line privileges,” said David Fitz, TSA regional spokesperson for Texas. “We’d love for more people to use it, because we know there’s a tremendous military community here. So we want to get the word out that they have their own lane here that basically gets them a fast pass to the head of the line.”
Members do not have to be in uniform when at the airport. All they need to do is show their military ID to guest services who are right in front of the lane, Fitz said.
