Austin-Travis County health authorities on Friday reported one more coronavirus-related death, bringing the county’s COVID-19 death toll to 430.

Health authorities on Friday also said 71 more people in the area have tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing the total number of detected cases to 29,647.

Officials said of those cases, 618 are considered active.

Currently, the county estimates that 28,599 people have recovered from COVID-19. The county also said that 79 people who have tested positive for the virus are currently in Austin-area hospitals. This includes 14 people who are new admissions.

The seven-day rolling average for new coronavirus-related hospitalizations for the Austin area is currently 12.4. Austin Mayor Steve Adler on Tuesday said local health authorities may allow for larger gatherings if the county’s seven-day moving average for hospitalizations drop to 10.

Of those hospitalized, 24 were in intensive care and 13 were on ventilators Friday.

Interim Austin-Travis County health authority Dr. Mark Escott, speaking in response to news that President Donald Trump has tested positive for the coronavirus, reminded residents on Friday to remain vigilant against the spread of COVID-19.

Of those who tested positive for COVID-19 so far in the pandemic, 50% were Hispanic, according to recent Austin data. Non-Hispanic whites made up about 31% of cases, 7% are Black and 3% are Asian.

According to the 2019 census estimates, the county is about 49% non-Hispanic white, 9% Black, 7.4% Asian, and 33.6% of the population is Hispanic.
