AUSTIN (KXAN) — October is known to bring extreme temperatures, and for some, winter weather. From heat in the east to mountain snow out west, travelers need to be aware of some big weather pattern changes in the near future.
Today’s Forecast: Heat continues, but spotty showers make a return
Ski lovers get excited! Heavy snow is forecast to last through the weekend for higher elevations in states like Montana and Wyoming. A Winter Storm Warning for parts of southern Montana forecasts additional snowfall totals of up to 10 inches through Sunday evening.
Colder-than-normal temperatures will blast the Northwest and Northern Plains, with Freeze Warnings issued for parts of Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota, and North Dakota.
In the Central Plains, severe weather is possible Sunday evening, with a marginal risk for storms (level 1 out of 5).
There is a low-end threat for large hail and damaging winds for portions of Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa. Beyond Sunday, there is no severe weather risk across the lower 48 through mid-week.
In the Midwest and Northeast, daily record high temperatures are scorching states such as Michigan, New York, Massachusetts, and Maine.
Warmer-than-normal temperatures are forecast through the work week east of the Rockies.
