TIMELINE: What has happened since the deadly Round Rock Juneteenth festival shooting

City of Round Rock to offer mental health resources following Juneteenth shooting

ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — Two people are in custody and charged in connection to the deadly shooting at Round Rock’s Juneteenth celebration.

The shooting happened June 15 during the Round Rock Juneteenth Celebration at Old Settlers Park. Two people died and 14 others, including children, were injured, police said.

Here’s updates on what has happened in the shooting investigation:

June 15

Round Rock police responded to a shooting around 10:50 p.m. at Old Settlers Park. Police said a fight broke out between two groups at the Round Rock Juneteenth celebration.

June 16

Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks gave an update early Sunday morning and said two people were dead and 14 others were injured.

Later in the day, police released a suspect description and updates on the victims, who were innocent bystanders.

“We’re very disappointed and angry with these events. This is the 16th year of this Juneteenth event, and for someone to destroy the peace and celebration within an instant, it angers me,” Banks said.

June 17

Police named Ara Duke, 54, and Lyndsey Vicknair, 33, as the two victims of the shooting. Police said the women were innocent bystanders.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the families affected by this tragedy. We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community and will work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice,” Banks said in a statement.

June 18

Gov. Greg Abbott said the governor’s public safety office is offering up to $10,000 leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect or suspects, increasing the total rewards available to $20,000.

June 19

The family of Ara Duke, who died in the shooting, shared memories with KXAN of the Pflugerville mom.

“I would not want for her to wither away if the roles were reversed,” her husband Christopher Duke said.

June 20

Law enforcement arrested 17-year-old Ricky Thompson III in connection to the shooting. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and Round Rock police said additional charges were possible.

According to an arrest affidavit, Thompson admitted to firing three rounds.


Community members hold candlelight vigil for victim of Round Rock shooting Thursday

A vigil was held in Round Rock in the evening to celebrate the life of Vicknair, one of two women who died in the shooting.

June 21

One shooting victim, LaTonya Ray, described the shooting to KXAN. She was looking for her husband when she heard gunfire.

“I felt it in my leg and I felt myself just sitting down, and my husband had to drag me to the emergency station, and my kids were behind me,” Ray said to KXAN.


‘Horrific’: Woman shot, injured at Round Rock Juneteenth celebration speaks

Later in the day, police announced the arrest of a second suspect, a male juvenile. The unnamed suspect was taken to the Williamson County Detention Center.

In the last update, Round Rock police said the investigation is ongoing, and police are investigating other suspects.
