HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A man is facing a first-degree felony charge after investigators say he used Snapchat to contact underage girls, offering them alcohol and vapes in exchange for sexual favors while also soliciting nude images and videos.
The Hays County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Patrick Zepeda on Thursday. The investigation began July 14 after a Dripping Springs resident reported that an adult male had provided a vape and alcohol to a minor.
During their investigation, HCSO detectives discovered a related case being pursued by the Austin Police Department. On Aug. 28, investigators executed a search and arrest warrant at Zepeda’s home in Harris County.
He was taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail on a charge of trafficking of persons/engage in sexual conduct. His bond was set at $75,000, and he has since been released from custody.
Investigators say Zepeda solicited nude images and videos and requested sexual activity from the minors. According to the sheriff’s office, he offered “discounts” on alcohol and vapes to victims who complied with his requests. Several victims reported purchasing from him without giving in to his sexual demands.
Hays County Sheriff Anthony Hipolito is using this case to urge parents to be vigilant about their children’s online activity. “Online predators continue to use new and deceptive methods to target minors, and our office remains committed to protecting children and pursuing those who exploit them,” Sheriff Hipolito said.
