AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Tuesday, a Taylor man received a prison sentence of 80 years after being found guilty of driving while intoxicated three or more times, which enhanced the charge to mark him as a habitual offender.
According to the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office, 60-year-old Thomas Glen Holman was arrested in February 2023 after an off-duty police officer reported a Jeep driving recklessly from Granger to Taylor.
“The officer witnessed the vehicle driving in the middle of the road, straddling two lanes of traffic and speeding at 60mph in a 30mph zone,” the DA’s office said.
Holman was pulled over and ultimately arrested.
“His blood was drawn pursuant to a warrant, and his blood alcohol content was 0.292, over 3 times the legal limit,” the DA’s office said.
During his trial, the DA’s office said Holman represented himself—despite warnings.
The DA’s office said prosecutors presented evidence of several related arrests during the trial, some of which dated back to the 1980s, including four previous felony DWI convictions.
“This 80-year sentence underscores the county’s firm stance against drivers who repeatedly put innocent lives at risk,” said Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick. “Mr. Holman’s actions demonstrated a callous disregard for public safety, and this verdict ensures he will no longer pose a threat on our roadways.”
