AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said its SWAT team responded to a call about a barricaded subject Wednesday morning in southeast Austin.
APD said officers responded at approximately 3:40 a.m. near the area of 5300 Jimmy Clay Drive, and the scene remained active for nearly five hours.
The department said the initial call was from a woman who said she needed police assistance. APD said the caller said she was inside an apartment with a violent person, who police said was potentially holding a knife to her. The person was later identified as a Hispanic man in his 40s.
After being unable to make contact, APD said it called out the SWAT team, who made contact by utilizing a robot sent inside the apartment.
APD said the individual complied with directions and was arrested at the scene.
Police said the man was taken to the Travis County jail on the charge of aggravated assault/family violence and an outstanding warrant he had before this incident.
