AUSTIN (KXAN) — A group of Austin leaders and organizations are joining together to ask nonprofits how funding cuts are impacting their work.
KXAN’s Sally Hernandez has more on what the coalition hopes to accomplish with the survey.
Hernandez: “Lynne Skinner is here talking to us about this survey. Lynne let’s start with what exactly are you trying to find out here?”
Skinner: “What this coalition of organizations and leaders is doing is trying to get our minds around the collective effect of the federal funding cuts, executive orders, policy changes on our nonprofit ecosystem so that we in turn can help meet the moment with these nonprofits, these critical nonprofits.”
Hernandez: “What are some of those questions on the survey?”
Skinner: “Where their funding comes from, which government agency, weather it’s direct or indirect. Asking them how are you responding? What does that mean for your staff level, your service level, what is going away and for whom is that going away.”
Hernandez: “What do you do once you get the results?”
Skinner: “What we want to do with the information, the data we collect and help create collaboration. Where are the holes, the gaps, when do people start falling through the cracks, advocacy, funding. Where can individuals in our community and larger funders in our community invest their dollars strategically to help.”
Hernandez: “And who can take part in this survey?”
Skinner: “If your viewers are serving on board, donating to nonprofits, working for nonprofits, just make sure they’re responding here.”
