AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas Department of Licensing Regulation representatives presented a Fredericksburg convenience store with a $250,000 check after a major jackpot-winning ticket was sold at the store in September.
A Texas resident bought one of two lotto-winning tickets at Big 103, located at 11905 E. U.S. Highway 290 in Fredericksburg.
The ticket was for the $1.8 billion Powerball Grand Prize, said Rick Figueroa, chairman of the Texas Department for Licensing and Registration (TDLR), during a check presentation Wednesday.
Figueroa said the ticket purchased in Fredericksburg “was the second largest jackpot win in both Powerball and U.S. Lottery history.”

Two winning tickets of the $1.8 billion prize were sold, one in Texas and the other in Missouri, Figueroa said. The Texas winner will be allocated $410 million before taxes, Figueroa said. As of Wednesday, the winner has not claimed their prize. However, the winner has 155 days to claim it.
Figueroa said Big 103 selling a winning ticket is a huge win for the area.
“It’s a win for the store, it’s a win for the community, and it’s a win for Texas,” Figueroa said.
What is a retailer bonus?
Big 103 was able to receive the $250,000 bonus, as it is a “structure” at TDLR that has “been in place for several years with the lottery,” said Courtney Arbour, executive director for TDLR.
“It’s a way that we can recognize stores and celebrate with them, but also recognize retailers for being licensed retailers, and making the game available to the people in their community that love to play,” she said.
Texas has seen big wins over the last three years, Arbour said.
“We do love to see a Texas win, because those that win the game, it just reassures them they have a chance,” she said. “They don’t win if they don’t play.”
