AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas and Ohio State are set to play one of the most anticipated season-opening games in recent college football history Saturday, and Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian plans to talk about the matchup with reporters Monday.

Texas is the top-ranked team in both preseason polls and Ohio State is No. 2 in the USA Today/US LBM coaches poll and No. 3 in the Associated Press Top 25. It’s the first time in the poll era (since 1936) that the top two teams from either poll will meet in the first game of the season.
On top of that, the Buckeyes ended the Longhorns’ season last year in the College Football Playoff semifinals at the Cotton Bowl Classic. Ohio State went on to claim the national championship with a 34-23 win over Notre Dame.
Starting quarterbacks for both teams head into the game without much experience. For the Longhorns, Arch Manning started two games last season in relief of Quinn Ewers. It’ll be the first-ever start for Buckeyes sophomore Julian Sayin.
The Longhorns are the first team in the poll era to be an underdog in their season opener. Texas opened as 3-point underdogs through most sportsbooks in April, and oddsmakers tightened the spread anywhere from 2.5 to 1.5 depending on the sportsbook.
