AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 44-year-old man was arrested in connection with a deadly crash that happened on Labor Day, according to an arrest affidavit from Travis County. This is the second arrest made in the case.
Court documents identified the man in the second arrest as Sosimo Aviles Reyes. He was arrested on Oct. 3 and was booked into the Travis County Jail on a charge of collision involving death — a second degree felony.
KXAN has reached out to Aviles Reyes’ attorney. We will update if a statement is received.
The crash happened around 9:45 p.m. in the 5200 block of East Ben White Boulevard on Sept. 1, which is near Montopolis Drive. Two vehicles were involved in the crash — a black Honda and a black Toyota, according to the affidavit.
When Austin police officers arrived on the scene, they learned a two-vehicle crash had happened, and a woman was “thrown” from the Honda. She suffered “severe injuries,” and first responders attempted life-saving measures. However, she was pronounced dead around 9:58 p.m. Police previously identified that woman as 21-year-old Sheyla Alejandra Mascorro.
The first person arrested in the case was identified as 21-year-old Sonia Edith Ramos. She faces an intoxication manslaughter charge in the case. Ramos’ attorney said they had no comment of her September arrest.
Ramos told police that whenever she switched lanes she rear ended another vehicle, according to an affidavit. Ramos admitted to police that she had two shots of vodka at a gas station before the crash happened. She was arrested on an intoxication manslaughter charge.

Investigators obtained surveillance footage of the driver and the passenger of the Toyota running from the scene, according to the affidavit.
Officers searched the Toyota and found “several unopened Bud Light beer bottles as well as several open and emptied bottles.” Police said they also found paystubs for Aviles Reyes, court documents said.
The Toyota was also registered to someone other than Aviles Reyes. That person told investigators Aviles Reyes always drove the car, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit said investigators spoke with the person who was believed to be the passenger in the vehicle. After the crash happened, she said they both “did not know what to do so they left the scene.”
