AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin SWAT team was called out to the 9500 block of Dessau Road in north Austin Thursday afternoon, after a person armed with a gun refused to pull over for a traffic stop.
The Austin Police Department said around 12:35 p.m., officers tried to pull a driver over who was violating “various” traffic rules. They determined the driver was armed with at least one gun.
The SWAT team was called out to help, after the suspect ran into an apartment at 9500 Dessau Road. That’s the address for the complex 9500 Apartments, just north of East Rundberg Lane.
At about 2:24 p.m., officers confirmed the suspect had gotten away. They have not been arrested, police said.
Police know who the suspect is, but they are not releasing information about them right now. APD feels confident the scene is safe, and the investigation is still ongoing.
APD previously had roads in the area shut down because of the situation, but streets are reopened.
This has been the second SWAT callout on Thursday APD has released information about on social media. A man was arrested after a reported domestic dispute and alleged assault at a south Austin apartment complex earlier on Thursday morning.
