AUSTIN (KXAN) — One person was injured in a shooting Sunday at an east Austin park, and now police are asking witnesses to come forward with any information that could help with the investigation.
The Austin Police Department said the shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. at Bartholomew District Park off Berkman Drive. That is near the Mueller development.
A large, planned community event was being held at the park. APD said during that event, “multiple unidentified males were involved in a physical disturbance in the parking lot near the baseball field.”
After the disturbance, gunshots were fired in the area. One victim was hit along with multiple vehicles, according to APD. The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
APD said the preliminary investigation shows several persons of interest gathered right before the shots began. A large crowd was also present during the shooting.
Detectives are asking witnesses to come forward, and they need help gathering information, videos or audio recordings related to the shooting, APD said.
Anyone with information can call the APD Aggravated Assault Unit at (512) 974-8566. You can also submit tips anonymously through Capital Area Crime Stoppers online or by calling (512) 472-8477.
