AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Tuesday, Pflugerville ISD revealed design plans related to the district’s first workforce housing community for PfISD classroom educators.
The district said the community will feature duplexes, townhomes and apartments, along with shared amenities such as walking trails, a pool and a community gathering space.
“By offering affordable housing reserved only for our workforce, PfISD is providing a forward-thinking solution that not only supports educators but also strengthens student success,” PfISD said.
Rent will cover maintenance and administrative costs, making the project fully self-sustaining so that district resources will remain focused on classroom and student programs, according to PfISD.
In October 2022, PfISD’s superintendent at the time, Doug Killian, said the workforce housing community would make Pflugerville more attractive to teachers, especially to those living or alone or who have just graduated from college.
The PfISD school board said the contract to develop its housing community for teachers was $2 million.
