AUSTIN (KXAN) — Order up!
Jo’s Coffee is poised to open a new location in the West Campus area near the University of Texas at Austin, according to new permits filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
The project was registered on March 5 and outlines the construction of a new shop at 701 W. 24th St., Ste. A in Austin. That address also houses Union on 24th, a student apartment complex in the UT West Campus neighborhood.
Permit documents outline a 1,600-square-foot new construction project, with an estimated cost around $450,000. Construction is tentatively expected to begin on April 1 and wrap July 15, based on project documents.
It’s the latest expansion plan for the beloved Austin coffee brand. Currently, Jo’s has seven Austin locations and celebrated its first Houston shop last month, opening up in mid-February in the Heights neighborhood.
Founded in 1999, Jo’s Coffee serves up coffee, pastries, sandwiches and breakfast tacos. The shop has developed recognition as an Austin tourist site courtesy of its “I love you so much” mural painted on the wall of its South Congress storefront.
Hyatt Hotels Corp. was poised over ownership of some of Austin’s boutique hotels last year, according to reporting from the Austin Business Journal. That hospitality entity acquired Standard International — the parent company behind the Austin-based hospitality firm Bunkhouse Group that owns Jo’s Coffee — in a $335 million deal in October, according to an update from commercial real estate information company CoStar.
