AUSTIN (KXAN) — Pflugerville drivers can now use a new roadway connection on Colorado Sand Drive.
The city of Pflugerville held a ribbon cutting Wednesday to celebrate the completion of the new extension between Copper Mine Drive and Lone Star Ranch Boulevard.
City leaders like Mayor Victor Gonzales and Assistant City Manager Thomas Hunter attended the ceremony.
Operations Director Evan Groeschel said this project has been in the works for several years, but construction ended ahead of schedule.
“Making connectivity with our transportation network is critical. There was not an easy connection between Copper Mine and East Pflugerville Parkway, and so this was designed to create that connection,” Groeschel said.
The city of Pflugerville added that a 2025 community survey showed a majority of respondents (64%) named traffic flow and congestion management as a top priority for the city.
“This roadway extension improves North-South connectivity between Kelly Lane and Pflugerville Parkway, a heavily commuted area,” the city said in a press release. “It also improves the sidewalks for community members and lowers vehicle emissions. Most importantly, this enhancement provides a safe connection for students and parents heading to and from the
nearby high school.”
The 2018 general election bond funded the project, the city said.
