AUSTIN (KXAN) — The murder of champion cyclist Moriah Wilson shocked Austin nearly two years ago. Her death would only start a bizarre hunt for Kaitlin Armstrong, taking law enforcement to Central America.
Armstrong then spent weeks on the run, seemingly building a new life for herself in Costa Rica.
On a two-hour special on NBC’s Dateline Friday, it will showcase brand new evidence from court, as well as key witnesses, including the killer’s plastic surgeon, who was unaware of the murderer’s intentions to elude authorities. An interview will also include deputy US Marshals who made the key identification leading to Armstrong’s arrest.
KXAN’s Brianna Hollis got the chance to speak with Dateline’s Keith Morrison about this interview.
Brianna Hollis: We got a transcript of your conversation with Agent Perez, who actually spotted Armstrong in Costa Rica. Can you give us some insight on that conversation?
Keith Morrison: Essentially, they were looking and looking and looking. They had given themselves a deadline. If we can’t find her in this Santa Theresa place within five days, we know we’re not gonna find her. And it was kind of a Hail Mary when they decided, everything else having failed, and a hurricane was approaching, they try one more thing. They put up an ad for a yoga instructor.”
