The Vipers are the defending 6A-Division II state champs, and following a season-opening loss to Dripping Springs, have won three consecutive games. They beat Vista Ridge 21-10 last week behind a stout run defense and 237 passing yards from quarterback Miles Teodecki. Vandegrift held the Rangers to 42 rushing yards and they picked off quarterback Cameron Iacek once.
The Mavericks have one of the most dynamic players in Central Texas, Jarell Gary Jr. He has accounted for 767 all-purpose yards this season, an average of 153.4 yards per game, with 10 touchdowns. It’s an even split of rushing and receiving touchdowns, and he has a 99-yard touchdown reception on his stat sheet. He’s caught 27 passes for 503 yards with 255 yards on 30 carries.
Cameron Parker and Keith Moreland will be on the call for the game, which is taking the place of the typical Westlake High School game on KXAN’s digital platforms. The Chaps beat Akins 66-0 on Thursday in the KBVO Game of the Week, and they’ll take on Austin High on Oct. 10 in another appearance on KBVO. Georgetown and Rouse will take their place on KXAN.com and KXAN+.
