AUSTIN (KXAN) — The 2025 Austin Film Festival (AFF) and Writers Conference has returned for its 32nd year.
From Oct. 23–30, the festival features over 180 films, including world and U.S. premieres, independent features, and studio releases, according to AFF.
For over two decades, festival organizers have held steady on their goal of uplifting creative voices in film, television, and media since the program was founded in 1994.
“We’ve gone from a small weekend-long festival to an eight-night extravaganza,” AFF Marketing Director Travis Broughton said. “We have major studio films and great independent films.”
Broughton said the festival’s impact stretches far beyond Austin’s city limits.
Films written by former competitors of the festival’s annual script and film competitions have generated over $5 billion at the global box office, AFF reports.
“We’re different from most film festivals because we’re very independently minded and we have the same kind of ethos Austin has: laid back,” Broughton said. “We want people to be able to come, enjoy themselves, learn about film, but also enjoy some good entertainment and see amazing stories.”
World premieres making their way to Austin include “A Man Walks Down the Street,” “A Mother’s Love,” “Charley Crockett: $10 Cowboy,” “Forelock,” “Gregg Allman: The Music of My Soul,” “Nobody Wants To Be Here, Nobody Wants To Leave,” and “Theatre People.”
Other Texas premiers include:
- “A Private Life” – Starring Jodie Foster, Daniel Auteuil, Virginie Efira
- “Dead Man’s Wire” – Starring Bill Skarsgård, Dacre Montgomery, Colman Domingo, Cary Elwes, Myha’la, Al Pacino
- “Is This Thing On?” – Starring Will Arnett, Laura Dern, Andra Day, Bradley Cooper
- “La Grazia” – Starring Toni Servillo, Anna Ferzetti, Orlando Cinque
