SAN ANTONIO (KXAN) — Leaders lifted a lockdown Tuesday afternoon at Joint Base San Antonio Lackland after police investigated a report of gunshots near the facility.
Brigadier Gen. Russell Driggers told reporters at a news conference that security personnel heard six to eight gunshots fired outside the base at about 9:30 a.m., which prompted the base to initially issue an active shooter alert on its social media accounts.
Driggers said base security worked alongside the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and the San Antonio Police Department to “conduct an evaluation” near one location outside the base. However, at about 11:40 a.m., the base declared an all-clear, so operations can resume as normal.
Police said there are no reports of injuries, and there isn’t a threat to the community.
Driggers said he could not speak to whether any suspects are identified or arrests have been made. He assured those living and working on the base that their safety and security are taken seriously.
