AUSTIN (KXAN) — An Austin business is taking care of the animals at a Leander shelter, and ensuring they are staying safe and cool ahead of the Texas heat with new air conditioning in kennels.
On Monday, Austin Air Conditioning donated and installed a new HVAC system for the dog kennels at the Texas Humane Heroes, a nonprofit animal rescue in Leander. The donation, which valued at $47,000, included all equipment and labor for the organization.
Texas Humane Heroes is a no-kill animal shelter and the organization rescues from over 51 shelter partners across the state to give puppies a second chance at love.
To make certain the rescues will be kept cooled ahead of the peak summer heat, it will take two days for installers to complete the job.
Branch Manager of Austin Air Conditioning, Lauren Klock, said that the installation of air conditions in the kennels was by far the business’ biggest project.
“Texas summer is brutal so it’s hot,” Klock said. “We need to get these puppies some air conditioning.”
Jayne Whisnant, chief development officer at Texas Humane Heroes, shared that the building the air conditioning was installed into is about 15 years old. She expressed that over the past few summers the heat has gotten extreme, and that temporary solutions were no longer effective.
“We’re very excited to have this permanent solution for the dogs,” Whisnant said. “It’s going to be life changing for the dogs. It’s going to be great for our staff and volunteers as well.”
“We believe in doing more than just keeping homes comfortable — we want to keep our community comfortable, too,” said Klock. “Helping these animals live in a safer, healthier environment is something we’re proud to be part of.”
