AUSTIN (KXAN) — Former Texas Longhorns head men’s basketball coach Rodney Terry is now in the NBA.
Terry announced on social media that he’s now a scout for the New Orleans Pelicans and also an analyst for ESPN.
“Basketball and God have taken me to some unbelievable places, and I am looking forward to what the future holds,” Terry posted on X.
Terry was fired from his post with the Longhorns shortly after the team’s 86-80 loss to Xavier in the First Four round of the NCAA Tournament last season. Sean Miller, the Musketeers’ coach who beat the Longhorns, was hired as Terry’s replacement days later.
Terry signed a 5-year, $15.3 million contract with the Longhorns to be the head coach in 2023. He took over the program following Chris Beard’s suspension and eventual firing after he was charged with domestic violence in the middle of the 2022-23 season. The charge against Beard was later dropped by the Travis County District Attorney’s Office.
Terry was 62-37 in nearly three full seasons as the Longhorns’ head coach.
