AUSTIN (KXAN) — Some Lago Vista residents have expressed concern to the police department about a deer that has seemingly embraced its “emo era.”
The deer has been spotted “proudly wearing a hammock tangled in his antlers,” according to a Facebook post from the Lago Vista Police Department, which has received a lot of calls about the deer.
“While his ‘forest-core fashion’ has raised some eyebrows, rest assured, he’s totally fine,” the police department’s post continued.
The Lago Vista Police Department checked in on the deer and consulted wildlife experts with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) to make sure the animal was OK.
“He’s eating, drinking, strutting around like he just dropped his debut album called ‘Hammocks & Heartache,’ and clearly thriving in his main-character moment,” the police department joked.
The post went on to explain that male deer naturally shed their antlers before the end of winter, so the “emo-chic accessory” is expected to fall off on its own soon.
The police department also said in the post that it checked with TPWD, which advised the police department. Lago Vista PD shared what TPWD told them:
“As difficult as it can be to see an animal with ‘hardware disease’ and want to help it, there are good, scientifically backed reasons why we do not get involved unless absolutely necessary. Darting animals in urban areas can be very high risk due to the number of people, roads, and houses, and the unpredictable nature of animal behavior.”
The police department asked residents to avoid interacting with the deer.
