AUSTIN (KXAN) — A Taylor resident paid off the lunch debt in Taylor ISD, according to the district’s Facebook page.
The post said the donor asked to stay anonymous and covered all of the negative balances in the school district as of Oct. 2.
“Thanks to this incredible gift, any student who owed money will have a fresh start and can enjoy school meals when classes resume on Monday!” part of a statement from Taylor ISD Child Nutrition Services said.
In Taylor ISD, students are able to charge up to five meals before receiving a low-cost alternative meal, according to the district’s website. Lunches for elementary students cost $2.65, and middle and high school students pay $3.15. Breakfast is free for every student.
The United States Department of Agriculture sets guidelines for free and reduced lunches nationwide. In Taylor, students who are eligible for reduced lunch, meaning their household meets 130% of the federal poverty level, automatically get free meals.
“Our goal is to make sure every student has access to a healthy, nutritious meal every day, regardless of meal status,” the post read. “We appreciate this generous donation!”
