AUSTIN (KXAN) — CapMetro will soon begin its construction for the new North Burnet/Uptown Station, formerly known as Broadmoor Station, for the Red Line. Construction is set to start in November.
The construction is made possible through a collaborative effort with CapMetro and Brandywine Realty Trust, according to a news release from CapMetro.
The Red Line corridor is what connects downtown Austin to Leander. CapMetro said the new station will improve “commuter rail access and reliability across the region.”
The 66-acre new station is near Solaris House and One Uptown, both near the Uptown ATX development.
Uptown ATX already has “nearly 400 luxury apartments and 350,000 square feet of office space, with additional phases of retail, hospitality, residential, office and green space underway.” CapMetro added it is “a high-amenity neighborhood where rail, bus, bike, and pedestrian infrastructure are fully integrated into daily life.”
“The station will serve as a vibrant getaway for thousands of commuters, residents and visitors,” CapMetro said.
Features for the station include:
- Two double-length platforms to accommodate high-capacity service
- Over a half mile of double track to support operational reliability
- Pedestrian and bike friendly pathways to support multimodal access
- Connections to local bus routes for integrated transit options
- 200 shared parking spaces for customers
- Various safety and security enhancements, including lighting and surveillance
“This marks a strong step forward in building a smarter, more connected future for Central Texas,” Dottie Watkins, president and CEO of CapMetro, said in the release. “The North Burnet/Uptown Station isn’t just about expanding transit — it’s about creating meaningful access to opportunity in one of our region’s fastest-growing corridors.”
