AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Blue Hole Nature Center in Hays County received a $3 million investment to expand and support conservation education in Wimberley, Texas.
The funds were from the Hays County Parks and Open Space Bond, a $75 million voter-approved initiative to enhance parks and conservation.
“The Nature Center will be dedicated to hands-on learning, ecological preservation and sustainable recreation,” the county said. “With this funding, [Wimberley’s] Parks and Recreation Department will design and develop a space connecting people of all ages with the rich biodiversity of the Texas Hill Country.”
The nature center will feature interactive exhibits where people can get up close to the region’s wildlife, educational programs and both indoor and outdoor learning spaces. There will also be sustainability initiatives to demonstrate water conservation, native landscaping and eco-friendly building practices, according to the county.
Hays County’s Parks and Recreation Department said the nature center was an opportunity to protect natural spaces by educating more people about the land around them.
The planning and development phase on the center will start in the coming months.
