Council authorized a construction services contract with DeNucci Constructors, LLC for approximately $1.77 million, coming from the Austin Transportation and Public Works Department’s capital budget. The focus of the project is to alleviate dark lighting conditions by enhancing street lighting “to the recommended street illumination standards,” per council documents.

The locations set to be treated are listed below and mapped:

  • Pearce Lane
  • Cullen Lane
  • Slaughter Lane at South First Street
  • East Riverside Drive at Tinnin Ford Road
  • West Slaughter Lane at Brodie Lane
  • South First Street at Barton Springs Road
  • North Lamar Boulevard at West St. Johns Avenue
  • South Pleasant Valley Road at East Riverside Drive
  • East Oltorf Street at Parker Lane
  • East Riverside Drive at Willow Creek Drive
  • East Riverside Drive at Wickersham Lane
  • West Oltorf Street at South Congress Avenue
  • West Braker Lane at Stonelake Boulevard
  • East 45th Street at Red River Street

Specific construction features will include adding new poles and lights within the right of way, installing lighting on utility poles already in the area and improving existing lights by swapping them with LED bulbs. Officials added the goal of the project is to minimize nighttime crashes and promote safer mobility for all users.

Before construction kicks off, city officials will notify area businesses and residents about the upcoming work via social media outreach and planned press releases, per council documents. Work is tentatively set to begin in January on Pearce Lane first before tackling the remaining roads and intersections. Construction on the entire project is estimated to run for eight months.
