Austin launching crime reduction strategy for 'prominent violent crime hot spot'

AUSTIN (KXAN) — City leadership says there is a “prominent violent crime hot spot” in Northeast Austin. During a news conference Thursday, they will announce their plans to address it.

APD investigating after pedestrian hit by vehicle in south Austin

Austin police and other city leaders aid the launch of a new crime reduction strategy they hope will reduce violence, address community concerns, and improve safety.

APD said the plan is partially based on a Place Network Investigation (PNI) at 900 E. Braker Lane.

The 10:30 a.m. press conference will include:

  • Austin Police Department Chief Lisa Davis
  • APD Commander JJ Schmidt
  • Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission Chief Ron Swenson
  • Austin Fire Marshall Stephen Truesdell
  • Development Services Division Manager Dan Armstrong
  • Law Division Chief Bianca Bentzin
