AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austinites will get the opportunity to explore the city’s music and artistry in October to celebrate National Arts & Humanities Month, a nationwide event to recognize the importance creativity plays in our communities.
The Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment (AACME) and its partners said in a release it will host events, performances and public programs across the city.
“This month is about more than celebration, it’s about access,” said Angela Means, Inaugural Director of AACME. “This effort will spotlight the heartbeat of our city — the artists, musicians, storytellers, culture bearers, and creative spaces that make Austin a vibrant and inclusive place to live.”
Means said Austin’s theme will hone in on “Arts for All ATX.”
“It’s about opening doors for every resident to experience and participate in the city’s creative life,” Means added.
October marks a busy month for tourism in Austin thanks to huge events like Austin City Limits and the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix.
This weekend marks the start of ACL, and according to a KXAN report, the Austin Bergstrom International Airport is expecting to see more than 35,000 department passengers for both Weekend One and Two.
The National Arts & Humanities celebration kicks off Thursday at Austin City Hall, from 12 to 1 p.m. Attendees can expect activities, speakers and an opportunity to connect with Austin’s creative community.
In February, the city of Austin opened a new Office of Arts, Culture, Music, and Entertainment (ACME) dedicated to the culture and entertainment scene in Austin, according previous report from KXAN.
