AUSTIN (KXAN) — A lot of times in polls, it’s about how the surrounding teams in the rankings do. In this week’s case, Oklahoma’s big win over a ranked opponent helped send Texas down despite a shutout victory.

The Longhorns fell two spots to No. 10 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 after they clobbered Sam Houston State 55-0, and while that sounds counterintuitive, the Sooners had a much more impressive victory over Auburn. Oklahoma shot into the top 10 at No. 7, which led to the Longhorns falling. Florida State also dropped a spot after a 66-190 win over Kent State.
It’s a double whammy of sorts for Longhorns fans since an idle Texas A&M team moved up a spot to No. 9, one slot above Texas.
Following a 26-7 win over Florida, the Miami Hurricanes moved up two spots to No. 2 behind Ohio State. Penn State and Louisiana State each dropped one due to Miami’s rise, and Georgia remained at No. 5.
The poll’s biggest riser was Indiana, rocketing up the chart eight spots to No. 11 after they demolished Illinois 63-10. The loss sent the Fighting Illini plummeting 14 spots to No. 23.
Half of the top 10 teams are from the Southeastern Conference, with five other SEC teams scattered throughout the remaining spots.
