AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Independent School District wants to hear feedback from families on their consolidation and boundary changes plan.
AISD announced a preliminary plan earlier this month to close 13 schools and redraw boundaries. It comes as the district faces a nearly $20 million budget shortfall and a decline in enrollment, leaving some schools under capacity.
According to AISD, the elementary schools that would close are Barrington ES, Becker ES, Bryker Woods ES, Dawson ES, Maplewood ES, Oak Springs ES, Palm ES, Ridgetop ES, Sunset Valley ES, Widén ES and Winn Montessori.
The middle schools that would close are Bedichek MS and Martin MS.
Virtual Q&A
AISD said it will hold a virtual Q&A focused on South Austin schools Tuesday from 6-7:30 p.m.
AISD has other sessions scheduled for later in October and in November ahead of the Board of Trustees’ vote on the plan at their Nov. 20 meeting.
