Ahead of Red River Rivalry, where are the construction projects on I-35?

For some Texas cities, the first freeze is coming earlier, others later

Texas Longhorns fans traveling from Austin will have to contend with I-35 before watching their team against the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday afternoon.

The Texas Department of Transportation can help you prepare for the drive with its DriveTexas map. The map shows current construction projects, crashes and closures on Texas roads.

There are a few construction projects drivers will need to be aware of while heading north on I-35, and most of those projects are in Central Texas.

Construction continues on north and southbound I-35 in north Austin and Round Rock with multiple lane closures. That work is slated to continue until 2029. TxDOT’s map shows the construction is currently between U.S. Highway 290 and State Highway 45.

In Red Oak, which is south of downtown Dallas, alternating lanes on the north and southbound side will be closed at night until Oct. 11 at 5 a.m.

The rest of the construction map looks fairly clear heading into the weekend, but drivers should expect slowdowns as Longhorn nation prepares for Saturday at the State Fair of Texas.
