AUSTIN (KXAN) — An Austin police sergeant was dragged for 30 feet while trying to arrest someone on a motorcycle, according to an affidavit.
The court documents said officers responded to a large number of bikers blocking traffic and doing wheelies at the intersection of North Lamar Boulevard and West Braker Lane.
The affidavit said it happened a little after 10 p.m. Friday. Officials said the bikers went from the intersection to the Walnut Creek Elementary School parking lot.
While trying to figure out who was in charge of the group, the affidavit claimed that officers noticed a rider did not have a front white head light or a rear-mounted red taillight on his motorcycle. The court documents identified that driver as Yannik Rohrer.
KXAN is attempting to locate Rohrer’s attorney for comment. We will update this if one is received.
An officer tried to detain Rohrer and yelled at him to stop, according to the documents.
The affidavit claimed he rode into the crowd to hide, but a sergeant found Rohrer and put his hands on his back and wrist to detain him. It was at that moment officers said Rohrer hit the throttle of his motorcycle while the sergeant held onto him.
Court documents alleged he intentionally pulled the sergeant for 30 feet at a high speed.
Ultimately, the affidavit said the sergeant was able to pull Rohrer and his motorcycle to the ground and officers took him into custody.
Rohrer was charged with the following:
- Evading detention in a vehicle
- Unlawful restraint of a peace officer
- Assault on a peace officer
The sergeant suffered superficial cuts on his left arm, according to the affidavit.
