AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Community College hosted an open house to show off how it’s preparing its students for a growing semiconductor and manufacturing industry here in Central Texas.
On Saturday, from 10-12 at its Highland campus, ACC hosted its advanced manufacturing open house. It gave tours of labs, giving attendees an up-close look at training students go through, working with the very equipment used by employers in the manufacturing field throughout Central Texas.
“The demand for highly skilled workers in advanced manufacturing has never been greater,” Dr. Laura Marmolejo, ACC Dean of Advanced Manufacturing, said in an ACC press release. “When students walk into our labs, they’re not just learning theory. They’re working on the same robotics, electronics, and semiconductor equipment they’ll encounter on the job. That hands-on training gives them confidence, skills, and a clear path to a great career in advanced manufacturing.”
This comes as ACC said there’s an unprecedented demand in manufacturing, which is fast-growing in our region.
“These employers are urgently seeking workers for ‘new collar’ jobs that value technical skills over traditional four-year degrees,” ACC said in a press release. “ACC’s programs — from short-term credentials to an associate degree and even a bachelor’s degree — are designed with industry partners to fill those gaps and create direct pathways into high-paying, high-demand careers.”
