Abbott urges Texas State to ‘expel’ alleged student who mocked Charlie Kirk’s death

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas State University is taking action to identify an individual who appeared to be mocking Charlie Kirk’s death in a video during a memorial on Monday.

In a video posted on X, the alleged student was heard saying, “Charlie Kirk got hit in the neck b****.”

The following day, Texas State President Dr. Kelly Damphousse acknowledged the incident and said in a statement that university officials are taking “immediate steps to identify the individual in the video.” The statement continued to say behavior that “trivializes or promotes violence is reprehensible” and “violates the values of TXST.”

“If this individual is found to be affiliated with TXST, appropriate action will be taken,” the statement said.

Texas leaders respond to shooting of Conservative activist Charlie Kirk

On Tuesday, Gov. Greg Abbott responded to the video on social media urging the university to expel that individual who appeared to imitate the conservative activist’s death.

“Hey Texas State. This conduct is not accepted at our schools. Expel this student immediately. Mocking assassination must have consequences,” Abbott said in a post on X.

Kirk was fatally shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10.

However, this isn’t the first incident that a student mocked Kirk’s death during a memorial at a Texas university.

According to our sister station EverythingLubbock.com, a student who mocked Kirk’s death at Texas Tech University on Sept. 12  is “no longer enrolled.”

TEA received approximately 180 reports related to employee posts about Kirk assassination

In the video that gained social media attention, the former Texas Tech student was heard saying, in part, “F*** your homie dead, he got shot in the head.”

Abbott also responded to that incident on X, and said, “This is what happened to the person who was mocking Charlie Kirk’s assassination at Texas Tech. [F*** Around, Find Out.]”

The consequences at Texas universities are a continuum to the recent Texas Education Agency (TEA) investigations on educators’ inappropriate social media posts related to Kirk’s assassination.
