AUSTIN (KXAN) – As Texas State football stepped into October, there was an earned sense of confidence. The Bobcats were expected to compete for a Sun Belt conference championship, and are coming off back-to-back eight-win seasons.
But then, a harsh reality check came.
The Bobcats suffered three straight heartbreaking losses to start conference play, just to get blown out at the end of the month, and now sit at 0-4 in Sun Belt play.
“[We’re] getting the confidence, getting the swagger where it needs to be to be able to go on the road and get a win versus a good team,” said Bobcats head coach GJ Kinne on his team’s energy ahead of their matchup against Louisiana.
Having not played since October 28, Texas State will get back in action Saturday as the Bobcats head to Lafayette to battle the Ragin’ Cajuns.
Texas State lost 52-20 to James Madison in its last game, trailing 28-20 at halftime. It was their most lopsided loss since 2023. They have five losses overall, tying their total from both 2023 and 2024.
Texas State is feeling the hunger to get back in the win column with just four games remaining.
“Yeah, tons of pressure,” said Kinne. “We’re putting it on them. We got to go find a win. It’s a must-win game. Everything we’ve worked for, everything we’re doing leads up to this point.”
The Bobcats will kick off against Louisiana at 4 p.m. as they try to beat the Ragin’ Cajuns for the first time.
“I don’t think it’s that much different as far as the pressure goes. More like, there’s no wiggle room,” added Kinne.
