AUSTIN (KXAN) — During a meeting Wednesday, animal advocates worked to help the city of Austin pick its new Animal Services director.
The Austin Animal Welfare town hall was held at the Austin Community College – Highland campus. The meeting aimed at hearing the community’s ideas on implementing measures for success for the next leader.
Don Bland, the city’s former chief animal services director, faced criticism from animal advocates over overcrowding at the shelter and other issues.
Former Chair of the Austin Animal Advisory Commission Craig Nazor attended the meeting.
“The thing we’re hoping to do is get some good criteria for the city when they are searching for a new director who knows how to make no-kill shelter work and get animals in there and get them out so there is new space for the animals coming in,” Nazor said.
