AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas is a prime example of the saying “It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish!” Since starting SEC play with a 29-21 loss on the road to Florida, the Longhorns have won four straight, sitting at 4-1 in the conference with two overtime wins on the road.
“I felt like we were better than we played,” head coach Steve Sarkisian said. “We had areas and holes on our team at that time that I knew we needed to approve upon.”
Fast forward to week 11 of the season, Texas has beaten previously ranked No. 6 Oklahoma and No. 9 Vanderbilt.
“Very specific players have gotten better since then,” Sark said. “I think collectively we’ve gotten better as a team but I don’t think there was ever a sense of panic. It was just let’s go find a way to win the next game.”
Four consecutive wins on the road required Texas to have mental and physical toughness. The players and Sarkisian always repeat “winning the SEC is tough.” That’s not an understatement as nine teams represent the conference in the AP Top 25.
Coming out of the bye week, Texas will go on the road to face No. 5 Georgia in Athens, GA.
