AUSTIN (KXAN) — A student is home from the hospital and expects to return to school “later this week” after being hit by a vehicle at Bar W Elementary in Liberty Hill on Tuesday, according to a message sent to families from Principal Joy Hudgens.
The crash happened around 7:30 a.m., during arrival time at the elementary school, the email said. The crash happened as the student was crossing a driveway on campus.
“Our school nurse and campus leaders immediately responded to support the student while emergency services arrived,” Hudgens said in the email. “The parents were contacted, and the student has been transported to the hospital for evaluation.”
A spokesperson for the Liberty Hill Independent School District told KXAN “the driver remained on scene and cooperated with the Liberty Hill ISD Police Department.”
The district said it could not share details about the student’s age and grade “to protect the student’s privacy.”
“We ask that during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up we drive with extra care for the safety of our children,” Hudgens said.
Last month, crossing guard Charlene Conner called on Williamson County via a petition to make stop signs at the intersection she oversees at Santa Rita Elementary School, citing heavy traffic and safety concerns.
The incident remained under investigation by Liberty Hill ISD police on Tuesday, according to the district.
