AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Hays County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a former Buda resident, who was extradited from Canada to face multiple warrants for sexual assault.

Juan Pablo Acosta mugshot (Hays County Jail)

Buda police initially arrested Juan Pablo Acosta, 45, on July 13, 2021. He was charged with two second-degree felony counts of sexual assault in that case, and the arrest also triggered bond forfeiture in a Travis County discharge of a firearm case.

He bonded out of Hays County Jail two days after his arrest, HCSO said.

However, during November 2021, Buda Police allegedly connected Acosta with 30 sexual assault warrants, according to HCSO. Buda asked HCSO’s Special Services Division for help locating Acosta in December 2021. That’s when authorities learned that he wasn’t in Texas, or the U.S.

“During the investigation, information was discovered Acosta was residing in Toronto, Canada,” HCSO said in its Wednesday press release. “An extradition required Federal court approval from United States, Mexican, and Canadian authorities.”

While authorities worked on an extradition, Acosta was arrested in Canada on June 27, 2025, on “unrelated charges,” HCSO said.

U.S. Marshals brought Acosta back to Hays County on Wednesday, according to court records, and he’s currently held without bond at the Hays County Jail.
