AUSTIN (KXAN) — Vandegrift stayed in the hunt for the District 25-6A championship with a 44-34 win over Hutto, handing the Hippos their first district loss Friday in high school football action across Central Texas.

The Vipers and Hippos are now 5-1 in district play with two weeks of the regular season remaining.
Cedar Ridge picked up a big win over McNeil 38-35, and Westwood topped Stony Point 35-7.
Lake Travis, No. 4 in the latest Dave Campbell’s Texas Football rankings, dominated the line of scrimmage against No. 8 Westlake in a 31-10 Battle of the Lakes win at Chaparral Stadium. The Cavs spoiled Westlake’s homecoming festivities and the jery retirement of Super Bowl champ and Westlake legend Drew Brees.
Rouse outlasted Leander 31-22, while Wimberley beat Gonzales 38-30. Vista Ridge thumped Manor 41-10, and Buda Johnson needed overtime to get past San Antonio East Central 35-28.
Blanco scored a huge upset win over Lexington 35-33. The Eagles entered the game ranked No. 4 in 3A-Division II.
