AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Independent School District is investigating after an email was sent from a Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA) High School counselor to a senior family containing transcripts for all LASA seniors, according to a letter from the Principal Stacia Crescenzi.
“The moment we discovered the disclosure, we worked with our teams to begin isolating the issue, determining the cause and any necessary actions. The student information was isolated to the senior class. No other grade levels were affected,” the letter said in part.
The file had GPA, course credits along with personal information, like phone numbers and home addresses, the letter said.
“We are profoundly sorry. As school leaders, we understand we’re trusted with your student’s information and we take that responsibility seriously. We recognize that this incident is unsettling and we apologize for any worry this may have caused,” the letter said.
The letter went on to say that it is the school’s “immediate priority” to understand how the disclosure happened and will “take all appropriate remedial action.”
“Simultaneously, we are working to understand how this happened to avoid something like this occurring again. We will follow up to outline actions taken when we have a better understanding of what occurred,” the letter said.
KXAN has received confirmation that an initial investigation by AISD has only identified one family that received the disclosure.
For anyone who has questions are asked to reach out to the principal, according to the letter.
